AI in Vermont

Vermont's Act 132 (2022) created a Division of Artificial Intelligence in the Agency of Digital Services, led by a Director of Artificial Intelligence, along with an Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council; the Division keeps a State AI Code of Ethics and an annual inventory of automated decision systems. Act 101 (H.814), signed May 18, 2026, expands the council's membership, extends it to June 30, 2030, and requires recommendations on neurological rights and AI in health and human services by January 15, 2027. The Vermont Agency of Education released AI guidance for schools on January 26–27, 2026.
