AI in Rhode Island

Gov. Dan McKee signed Executive Order 24-06 on February 29, 2024, creating a state AI Task Force chaired by former Congressman Jim Langevin and a Data and AI Center of Excellence within the Department of Administration. The task force released a 75-page Rhode Island AI Action Plan on January 28, 2026, recommending AI workforce training, registered AI apprenticeships, state-service pilots and an "AI for Rhode Island" hub. The Rhode Island Department of Education issued guidance on responsible AI use in schools in August 2025.
