AI in New Mexico

New Mexico enacted HB 182 in March 2024, requiring disclaimers on campaign advertisements that use AI to misrepresent individuals without consent. In K-12 education, the Public Education Department published non-binding AI Guidance for K-12 Education 1.0 in May 2025, and a May 2026 Legislative Education Study Committee brief recommended enforceable district AI policies and AI-specific student privacy and procurement standards. New Mexico State University plans to launch the state's first bachelor's degree in AI in fall 2026.
