AI in Colorado

Colorado's 2024 AI Act (SB 24-205) on algorithmic discrimination was delayed and then repealed and replaced by SB 26-189, signed by Governor Jared Polis on May 14, 2026, which regulates automated decision-making technology and takes effect January 1, 2027 alongside the Chatbot Safety Act (HB 26-1263, signed July 1, 2026). The Attorney General's Office filed proposed rules in August 2026 and is holding a public hearing on October 26, 2026. The Governor's Office of Information Technology runs AI training and an AI Community of Practice for state employees, and the Colorado Department of Education publishes AI resources for schools built around the August 2024 Colorado Roadmap for AI in K-12 Education.
