AI in Arkansas

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders launched an AI working group in June 2024 and established the Arkansas AI & Analytics Center of Excellence, chaired by the state Chief Data Officer, to develop guidelines and pilot projects for safe AI use in state government. The AI CoE's reports (including a September 2025 Government Effectiveness report and a safety report received in February 2026) recommended AI tools for state employees, an AI-enabled services portal, NIST-based evaluation and a Chief AI Officer, a position the state began recruiting in December 2025. In October 2025 the state partnered with Google to offer no-cost AI and career-certificate scholarships to Arkansans 18 and older, and in 2026 the Department of Commerce led the state's proposal for an NSF AI-Ready America coordination hub.
